It’s finally happened my first race crash that is & it was a nasty little unexpected excursion for both of us.
So what happened? I was entering the flip-flops at Winton race way, which consist of a fast left then right. As I had flipped over to the right to take the second corner, one of the 1000’s tried to undertake me & when it was too late realised he wasn’t going to make it. He hit the breaks & immediately lost the front end & slid into my back wheel.
My bike slid out to the left & quickly straitened back up but I was now facing the wall so I went to try to tip it in again & roll on the throttle to save it when my back end was hit again by the same bike as it was spinning on the ground. This time it completely wiped me out & all I remember is landing on my shoulder & head & then slamming into the air wall. We got up & out of the way of danger & the other rider came over to me & apologised for his mistake.
I think there is a really good lesson that can come out of this. Sometimes you can be doing everything right & someone elsecan make an error of judgement that has a major impact on you & so it's not so much what happens to you but rather how you respond that counts.
